Summer Program 2008

Give your child a chance to have fun and learn about everyday things in his world. This summer at Morning Glory Montessori we will offer a six-week program from June 9 through July 18. Each week will have a different theme to explore. The children will read about aspects of that theme, create crafts, do a cooking project, and finally watch an age-appropriate movie relating to that theme.

The first week will be On the Farm. The children will learn about animals that are raised on the farm and what farmers do. They will make animal craft projects, cook pigs in a blanket and watch “Charlotte’s Web”.

The second week will be At the Beach. The children will learn about all of the plants and animals found on the beach and in the ocean. They’ll make visors and sun catchers, prepare Jello Jigglers and watch “Surf’s Up”.

Week three will be On the Job. The children will learn about life as a fireman, dentist, mail carrier, construction worker, and policeman. They’ll make crafts related to the different professions and then watch “Ratatouille”.

For the second session of our summer program we’ll begin with At the Circus. We’ll talk about the animals and performers at the circus and how they do their acts. We’ll make snow cones and watch “Dumbo”.

The fifth week will be all about Pirates. We’ll make treasure maps and go on a treasure hunt, make ourselves into pirates and watch “Peter Pan”. We’ll also make pirate pizza for lunch.

The last week will be spent in the Wild West. We’ll talk about what cowboys actually did (and still do), what the sheriff’s job was like, and what other people did during Wild West times. We’ll make trail mix and watch “The American Tail”.

The summer program is open to children 3 to 6 years of age. We are open 5 days a week from Monday to Friday. We offer ½ day programs from 8:30 to 12:30, and full day programs from 8:30 to 3:00.  We also offer extended care after school until 6:00.
